MeetMULTIVAC: Technical Department
Introducing the team at MULTIVAC
27.02.2024
At MULTIVAC, our people share the same vision and values to help process and package what is valuable to your business, but how much do you know about the different areas of our business, and the people who make it all happen?
We’re making business more human and introducing you to some of our hard-working, knowledgeable, employees from the various departments at MULTIVAC UK.
It’s our February instalment of MeetMULTIVAC...
Darren Barbet (aka Chapper), Regional Service Engineer (South East) – Technical Department
Tell us more about your role at MULTIVAC!
I work in the Southeast (Region 5) selling all aspects of the technical department, such as service, training, spares, and workshop repairs.
What does your day to day look like?
Day to day, my role is split between admin and visiting customers on site. From an admin point of view, I help with any customers technical and spare parts queries where I can, as well as offer new and renewal service contracts, details on training and workshop services. On site, I am carrying out service contract discussions and service review meetings.
How long have you worked at MULTIVAC? Have you had any other roles?
This year I will have been with MULTIVAC for 13 years! I have been in my current role as an RSE since September 2023. When I started, I was a Service Technician and I progressed on to a Regional Service Technician for the south east, then moved to specialise in servicing and installing of 3rd party equipment that we offer, such as LASKA and Risco, before I took on my current role.
What do you like about working at MULTIVAC? What is your favourite part of your job?
I enjoy the variety that my role brings in dealing with different people across different industries, and on different equipment. I also enjoy working with the great team of people that we have!
What is a current problem our customers and the industry are facing that you are aiming to fix?
With the effects of Covid and the current cost of living crisis, everyone is looking to try and cut costs where they can – our job is to make sure our customers are getting the best support from MULTIVAC to help them through these tough times.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy going to the gym and mountain biking, although the biking has taken a bit of a back seat this last year due to my busy schedule. My main hobby aside from that is my aquariums! I currently have four tanks with a variety of freshwater cichlids from South America and Africa. I have my two large main show tanks and two smaller tanks which both have fish that I have ‘rescued’ from my main tanks and are now growing out.
What did you want to be when you grew up when you were younger?
I loved football as a kid growing up in the 80’s and wanted to be a pro footballer like Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle, I’m a big spurs fan!!
Tell us something we don’t know! A surprising or fun fact about you...
In my younger years, before my four kids came along, I was a massive petrol head! I was lucky enough to own a couple of American muscle cars over the years, one was an 80’s Chevy Camaro Z28, and the other was a Corvette C4 (if you were an A-Team fan back in the day, it was Faceman’s car), plus I had a TVR Chimaera 400. I did also own an Audi TT 3.2 V6 quattro for a while, proper hairdressers’ car I know – which is strange considering I don’t actually have any hair!
Stay tuned for next month‘s instalment of MeetMULTIVAC!
